Susan Buchenberger

Susan Buchenberger MEd, BSDH, RDH, FADHA has practiced clinical dental hygiene for over 36 years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry, where she taught as an adjunct faculty for several years.

Teaching further inspired her love for the profession. As an educator, Susan was best at engaging students in various community service events demonstrating that serving together was fun. Over the years, she influenced many students, who continue to seek her mentorship today. Susan believes her mentorship role is as important as being a skilled clinical instructor.

Additionally, Susan has taught American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) Lunch and learn presentations and she served on the Colgate Oral Health Advisory Board. She was chosen as an ADHA TED-talk style speaker in 2018 and has published in Dimensions of Dental Hygiene. She is the current president of her local North Carolina Dental Hygiene Associate component, teaches interprofessionally to pharmacists and pharmacy students, and volunteers regularly at local clinics for the underserved. Her biggest attribute is truly her passion for the profession which her students described as “contagious.”

Susan is a current trustee for District 4 and was recently chosen as an inaugural member of the Fellows of AHDA and one of the ADHA Stand Out Seven, Educator Division.
